How to write a cover letter to your resume

When writing a cover letter, you have to act like a marketer. What does a marketing approach mean in this case? We try to make the text as clear as possible, as convenient as possible, as useful and as easily perceived by the employer and the hiring manager as possible.

This requires that the cover letter be:

1. Short, approximately 10-15 lines. There is no need to write long canvasses of text - they only discourage the employer.

2. no water. In the cover letter for career change should not be information that does not interest the employer, the general words that do not characterize you, retelling your resume.

Not formal. Many applicants write cover letters purely formally - in the style of "Hello, please consider my resume for your open position "X". I am confident that I meet all the requirements stated in the position description." Employers are discouraged by such letters - they don't carry any information and take time to read. In addition, the employer immediately thinks, "Are you sure you meet the stated requirements. Why? Where is the proof? I'm not sure." And does not open such a resume.

4. Structured, that is, the text should be easily perceived by the employer.

5. As specific as possible, so it was not in common words, so it was as practical as possible.

6. Proceeding from the employer's requirements. That is whether the cover letter is good or bad can only be said in conjunction with the job description. The cover letter should follow directly from the job description.

7. It is very important that the cover letter has things that impress the employer. Things that immediately catch the eye. What things in a resume cover letter can impress an employer?
